Title: Extension and Research Activities

1. Describe the ideal site for a sawmill 100 years ago.

2. Show on the map below, three additional locations that could support a sawmill. (Refer to a physical map of BC)

3. Find some current statistics for the BC lumber industry.
       • number of mills
       • total production (in board feet)
       • annual revenue
       • number of workers

4. Design a training course for greenchain workers. Include information on skills to be taught, safety considerations, and level of fitness required.

5. Locate an archival photograph of a working sawmill and write a description of what is shown. Omit #5

6. Draw a cartoon strip showing either a dangerous or humorous incident on a greenchain.

7. Write a letter of resignation outlining the reasons why you no longer wish to work on the greenchain.

8. Design a poster to be used by companies wanting to recruit greenchain workers.

9. Find out if anyone in your family has worked on a greenchain and, if so, interview that person about their experiences.
