Pronounced “Ucletaw” by locals, the narrow, treacherous section of Seymour Narrows between Quadra and Sonora islands form dangerous eddies, rapids, and whirlpools at the changing tide. Despite these hazards, the huge pitch-backs (Douglas fir trees growing up the steep slopes of the islands) made the Yuculta Rapids region one of the prime hand logging areas in BC.
