1. Show on a map the locations of gold mines in B.C. 2. Compare early hard rock mining methods with those used today. 3. Find out the types of jobs available in the mining industry and describe the one that appeals to you. 4. Suggest the kinds of social problems that might occur in remote work sites like Taku. 5. Describe the causes, symptoms, and treatment of silicosis. 6. Draw a pie graph that shows the relative economic importance to B.C. of three resource industries: mining, forestry, and fishing. 7. Write the chemical formulas for carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and hydrogen sulphide. Explain the noxious effects of each gas. 8. Look at the drawing of the miner on the cover page of the unit and name at least three work-related health problems he might have. 9. Visit the Royal BC Museum to see the exhibit on hard rock mining. 10. Visit the mining museum at Britannia Beach or Rossland.
